26. 'Abdel Jaber, Q. The Effect of Septic Tanks on Natural Springs. Presented to a workshop on the water situation in the Occupied Territories, Jerusalem, 1991, 3 pp.
The quality of water in two springs in the village of Sinjil was investigated. The nitrate concentration in the spring inside the village was 150 parts per million at the first examination and later increased to 250 parts per million. WHO recommends that nitrate concentration for drinking water does not exceed 45 parts per million. As for the spring outside the village the nitrate concentration did not exceed 10 parts per million at both times. The reason for this, as suggested by the author, is that the spring inside the village was affected by waste water coming from homes and seeping to the ground water reservoirs feeding the spring.
