This book is a result of a study done by the committee on sustainable water supplies in the Middle East. The approach of the National Research Council was used. The study area is defined as all parts of Israel, Jordan, and the West Bank and Gaza Strip. The report has five main chapters, each chapter dealing with a specific area of the problem. Chapter one is an introduction and background information about the area. Chapter two describes the study area and patterns of water use. Chapter three lists the factors affecting patterns of water use. Chapter four deals with water and the environment. Chapter five gives options for the future for balancing water demand and water resources.
