Development Studies Programme at Birzeit University and Handicap International carried out this survey of consumer satisfaction with rehabilitation centers in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.  The survey functions as a baseline to measure future changes and improvements.  It also highlights areas to be improved.  Questionnaires were given to 131 randomly selected cases from seven participating centers.  The centers participated in the research by answering surveys and providing input for study goals.  The areas addressed were encouraging a common mission, reviewing and improving methods, starting an informed debate on the subject of rehabilitation and disability, and clarifying what rehabilitation is all about.  The results for pre-rehabilitation, rehabilitation and follow-up were discussed with the centers.  Conclusions showed that many service constraints are not being remedied resulting in problems such as loss of empowerment for clients (and staff), too much bureaucracy, loss of follow-up, and individuals that do not finish the rehabilitation program.
